16"X20" Carbon, charcoal & graphite pencil on paper.
A few weeks ago I was asked by a client in Houston, TX to do a portrait of his wife and her father for Christmas. He wanted it in oil on canvas, but that would be impossible to complete in time. We decided to do it in pencil. The big problem, or challenge, was that the only picture of the father was from a drivers license. There was very little detail to see at all. She had never met her father and just recently found that he had died homeless in 2007. I was able to creat his portrait from the face structure on the small photo and a lot of imagination. It turned out well and she loved it.

My first painting with those oils was a portrait of Dean Martin. I can remember winning a few awards, and I was asked to help with art in class and school activities. I doodled and drew a lot. Drawing or doodling when I should have been studying often got me in trouble in school. While I have always been told I was artistic, I never thought about it much until I started to sell my work.
